Lenox vs. Iowa Mennonite School

Darrell Borntrager cracked a single down the left field line to score Ryan Bontrager and give Iowa Mennonite a 2-1 comeback win over defending state champion Lenox in the 1A quarterfinals Monday night at Principal Park.

IMS’ Reggie Hochstedler retired the first two batters of the seventh inning en route to the win and 14 strikeouts.

Lenox got its only run in the first inning Tyler Peterson’s double and the Tigers’ 1-0 lead held until the top of the sixth when IMS’ Brad Bontrager scored on a wild pitch.

In winning the first state tournament game in school history, IMS (26-3) moves on to play Coon Rapids-Bayard (28-8) at 8 p.m. Thursday. Lenox ended its season at 22-8. The loss ended a post-season winning streak of 11 dating back to last season.
