Urbandale vs. Waukee
July 29, 2020
Urbandale’s quest for its third straight state title continued Wednesday, as the J-Hawks advanced to the 4A semifinals with a 2-0 win over Waukee.
The four-seed J-Hawks (18-9) utilized a strong pitching outing from Ty Langenberg and a 2-for-3 outing from catcher Gehrig Christensen to advance past the Warriors (14-13).
Langenberg tossed a shutout in his 6.1 innings and struck out six batters. He allowed just six hits and moved to 7-0 on the year.
Waukee had chances to put runs on the board for most of the game but struggled. The Warriors went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and 1-for-16 with runners on base. Colin Evers led Waukee with two hits. Teammates Jacob Barton, Jackson Wentworth and Cooper Crouse also recorded hits.
Meanwhile, Urbandale didn’t manage a hit until the third inning, and that’s when the J-Hawks strung together their only runs of the game.
Gehrig Christensen singled to left field and plated Rece Heinen, and a fly out would score the final run of the inning.
