Norwalk vs. Clear Creek Amana
July 28, 2020
Thanks to the help of its standout defense, Norwalk earned a trip to the 3A semifinals with a 4-3 win over Clear Creek Amana on Tuesday.
The fifth-seeded Clippers (16-6) added a late run in the top of the seventh. With runners on second and third, Clear Creek-Amanda flied out to left field, giving the fourth-seeded Warriors (17-5) the win.
Norwalk pitchers Tucker Christensen and Evan Borst allowed just four hits, keeping the Clippers offense at bay. Christensen struck out three in his five innings and Borst added four strikeouts in his 1.1 innings.
Clear Creek Amana saw early offense in the top of the first from junior TJ Bollers, who drove in a run with a double to left field, but then things slowed down.
Norwalk jumped into the lead in the bottom of the second thanks to a pair of Clear Creek Amana errors. A dropped ball allowed Jake Fees to reach second, and moments later, Cael Eck plated him on a deep triple to left field. Another dropped ball would help give Norwalk a 2-1 lead.
Two innings later, another pair of errors would give Norwalk two runs, and the Warriors claimed a 4-2 lead heading into the fifth.
Offensively, Tyler Wegner was Norwalk’s most consistent batter, going 2-for-3 from the plate. Teammates Nate Lane, Jake Fees and Eck each posted hits of their own as well.
CCA made its first-ever trip to state.
