Cedar Rapids Xavier vs. ADM

The top-seeded Cedar Rapids Xavier Saints used a five-run sixth inning and avoided the upset against the eigth-seeded ADM Tigers 7-2 in a Class 3A quarterfinal Tuesday at Principal Park.
Xavier struck first in the bottom of the second when a sac bunt from Nate Skala scored Nick Banowetz, giving the Saints a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the third, ADM responded as Spencer Collins stole home and on an RBI single from Tate Stine-Smith, giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
Once the side was retired, Xavier evened the score when a throwing error by the ADM catcher allowed Kyle Moeder score from second.
With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, ADM pulled starter Logan Crannell, who was at 86 pitches. Relief pitcher Zach Fuller gave up five runs. Three ADM errors and RBIs from Jaxon Konzen, Quinn Schulte, Kyle Moeder and Garrett Ries were the catalyst behind the Saints’ big sixth inning.
Xavier will advance to the semifinals and face off against the winner of the Marion and Bishop Heelan game. ADM finished at 13-18.
