Lisbon vs. North Linn
July 26, 2018
The Lisbon Lions continued their undefeated season behind the arm of Austin Krob, rallying past North Linn 4-2 Thursday at Principal Park to advance to the 1A state championship. It was the third meeting this season between the Tri-Rivers Conference rivals, and the Lions needed a three-run sixth inning to win.
The Lions jumped on the board first, as Krob helped his cause at the plate by roping the first of two doubles on the day. A wild pitch in the next at-bat would prove costly, as Krob advanced to third and later scored on a Hagen Waters sac-fly to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
North Linn would respond in the following frame, as the Lynx took the lead off a two RBI double by starting pitcher Jake Hilmer. Hilmer’s extra-base hit would be the only run production for North Linn, as Krob held the Lynx offense to two earned on four hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts to seal the win.
Hilmer’s 1-for-3 effort at the plate with two RBIs and a walk would fall just short, as the righty went the distance on the mound; surrendering four earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts to take the loss.
After a quiet bottom of the fifth, Krob continued to play the tablesetter, roping his second double of the day and stealing third to set up a RBI single by Waters to tie the game, 3-3. Waters ended his day notching two of the Lions’ four RBIs, with Bryce Werderman collecting the remaining two off a two-run home run to left-center to keep the perfect season alive.
Lisbon will look to continue its streak vs. Mason City Newman Catholic in the 1A state championship, 11 a.m. Saturday at Principal Park.
