Iowa City West vs. Cedar Rapids Washington

Third-seeded Iowa City West defeated sixth-seeded Cedar Rapids Washington 12-2 in six innings in the a Class 4A quarterfinal game that started Wednesday night and ended Thursday morning at Principal Park. In a day filled with long rain delays, the game started at 10:39 p.m. and ended at 12:43 a.m.

It was the latest-ending game in state tournament history at Principal Park. The previous latest game was in 2005, when Cedar Rapids Xavier defeated Western Dubuque 8-2 in a Class 3A quarterfinal. That game ended at 12:34 a.m.

The Trojans took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first, scoring on two hits, two walks, one HBP, one wild pitch and one error. Braden Houston had a two-out, three-run double to lead the barrage.

West added a run in the second on a walk, a wild pitch and an RBI double by Izaya Ono-Fullard.

The Trojans stretched their lead to 9-0 with three runs in the third. Dane Randall ripped a two-run triple and Nate Disterhoft added an RBI single.

The Warriors got on the board with two runs with two outs in the sixth on an RBI double by Nolan Cavanaugh and an RBI single by Luke Jonasson.

Ono-Fullard crushed a solo HR to left center in the bottom of the sixth to make it 10-2. Logan Sims added a two-run triple for the walk-off 10-run victory.

Houston (9-1) was the winning pitcher. He allowed just two hits and struck out eight in five innings.

The teams had split a pair of regular-season games.

West (32-8) advances to the semifinals for the fourth straight year. The Trojans have finished second the past three seasons.

Washington ends at 24-16.
