DCG SHUTS OUT BENTON - large image

Dallas Center-Grimes earned a spot in the 3A semifinals after a defensive 1-0 quarterfinal win over Benton on Tuesday.

Mustang pitcher Logan Smith had his fingerprints all over this one, shutting out the Bobcats and allowing just one hit in his complete game. He struck out nine batters to remain a perfect 8-0 on the season.

The Mustangs needed a top outing from Smith, as offense was hard to find for both teams. Benton arm Cade Timmerman limited Dallas Center-Grimes to just three hits, but even that proved to be too much in a low-scoring pitching battle.

Caleb Dicken accounted for two of Dallas Center-Grimes’ three hits. Bryce Jermier added the third.

Meanwhile, Benton’s only hit came from left fielder Drew Lange.

Dallas Center-Grimes’ first run of the contest came in the bottom of the third. Dicken drilled a single to right field, scoring Isaac Boley for the game’s lone run.

Dallas Center-Grimes will face the winner of three-seed Gilbert and six-seed ADM on Friday.
