The Iowa Cubs will once again provide the opportunity for high schools to play regular-season games at Principal Park in Des Moines as part of the “High School Summer Series.”
Here’s how the program works:
• Teams should contact the Iowa Cubs with preferred date(s) and opponent, if you have one. The Iowa Cubs will work with teams to finalize dates and matchups after a short application period.
• Each high school purchases 300 Iowa Cubs ticket vouchers at $4 each. (The players and/or boosters at your school can sell them to your fans, families and friends for whatever price you set.) The vouchers are good for any game (except July 4). (Those vouchers are good for tickets that cost $14 for adults and $8 for children on game day.)
• Each school must send in a $600 deposit to secure their date. The remaining $600 must be paid at least seven days before the day you play your game. Total cost for each school: $1200. Teams will receive their ticket vouchers once the $600 deposit is received. (Ticket vouchers are printed in March.)
Each game will be seven innings, with each team getting time to stretch in the outfield and take a 10-minute infield prior to the game. There is a two-hour time limit for each game. In the event of rain, your game will be rescheduled as soon as possible. (In the unlikely event your game is not played, teams will have their $1200 fee refunded.)
The participating schools will be responsible for game balls and umpires, as well as providing a public address announcer and scoreboard operator. The Iowa Cubs will provide water and cups in the dugouts. If your team would like to shower after your game, let us know in advance and arrangements will be made at the downtown YMCA.
Note: Teams will take infield and outfield in turf shoes or similar athletic-type shoes. (No spikes, cleats, etc., during pre-game.)
