Second-seeded Urbandale defeated eighth-seeded Cedar Rapids Washington 3-0 behind the incredible pitching effort of Luke Llewellyn to win the Class 4A state championship Saturday night at Principal Park

Carter Troncin opened the scoring for Urbandale in the first inning, ripping a ball off the left field wall that scored Brook Heinen.

Heinen and Troncin continued to add runs for the J-Hawks in the third inning. Heinen slapped a double of the left field wall, while Troncin had an RBI single which made the game 3-0.

That was enough for Llewellyn to work with as he mowed down the Washington lineup striking out 13 batters and pitching a two-hit complete game.

Rimmy Nemickas did a solid job in relief for Washington, but the Warriors just couldn’t get the offense going.

This will be the third state title for Urbandale (36-6) and their first since 2007. Washington’s season will end with a 27-18 record.
